SpineMark Corporation, a spine care services organization that partners with hospitals and physicians to develop spine centers, research organizations and medical education training centers, has appointed Dr. Rudolf Bertagnoli, chairman and founder of ProSpine (Bogen, Germany), as chairman of its International Medical Advisory Board. In this role, Bertagnoli will oversee the recruitment of a global panel of physician advisors to manage the development of spine centers of excellence and clinical trials being conducted outside the United States to evaluate new technologies and treatment options for spinal disorders and injuries.

"Dr. Bertagnoli is an active leader in global spinal research studies with more than 20 years of experience pioneering fusion and non-fusion technologies for treatment of spinal disorders," said Marcy T. Rogers, M.Ed., president and CEO of SpineMark. "We believe in bringing together the best spine physicians from around the world to help us build international bridges for education, facility development and clinical research. Dr. Bertagnoli's experience is a great fit to help us achieve our goals of providing advanced spine treatment options to patients on a global level."

Bertagnoli is the founder, CMO and CEO of ProSpine, the first European Centre for Spine Arthroplasty and Associated Non-Fusion Technologies, which has five facilities across Germany. Bertagnoli has been published in key medical journals worldwide, and has trained over 3,000 surgeons from 50 countries in new minimally invasive spine techniques. Additionally, he is the founder and former president of the Spine Arthroplasty Society (SAS), president of Spine Evolution Nucleus Europe (SEN), a member of the North American Spine Society (NASS), a faculty member of IMAST and a past German representative of the International Society for Minimal Intervention in Spinal Surgery (ISMISS).

"SpineMark's concept of integrating clinical research into a global network of centers of excellence resembles the vision I have for my facilities in Germany," said Bertagnoli. "We share a dedication to ensuring that patients can receive quality care. I look forward to contributing to the creation of a global spinal research network through SpineMark's international partnerships."

Bertagnoli graduated in 1984 from the University of Vienna, Austria, and worked at emergency hospitals in Vienna and Linz before moving to the German Center of Spine Surgery in Bad Wildungen, Germany, in 1986. From 1989 to 1994, Bertagnoli held a position as senior physician and head of the spine department at the Orthopedic University Hospital, Georg-August-University Goettingen, Germany. He went on to lead spine units in several German cities before founding ProSpine in 2005.
